Tax loss carry forward (TLC)
Your CPA should be tracking your Tax loss carry forward (TLC) for you. If you are switching CPA’s you will need to make sure your new CPA gets this information from your previous year’s tax return (or that you provide this data to your new CPA). If you file your own taxes, then this is something that you need to keep up with yourself.
Below are the bullet points according to the article by Freshbooks titled, “Tax Loss Carry forward (TLC): Definition, Overview & Example”
One method that taxpayers can take advantage of is a tax loss carry-forward (TLC).
But what exactly is a TLC? And how can it be used to offset your taxable income?
- A TLC is a method that taxpayers can use to reduce their tax liability.
- It works by using a taxable loss in excess of gains in a given year and carrying it forward to future tax years.
- Any capital losses that exceed a year’s worth of capital gains can be used to offset ordinary taxable income. This is up to $3,000 in any future tax year.
- This can be done for an indefinite period until it has been exhausted.
For business owners or self-employed individuals:
- Net operating losses (NOLs) are losses that are incurred in business pursuits.
- NOL can only offset other business or self-employment income, not Earned Income.

Are your goals on track?
Can you believe that we are almost half way through 2023? School is out and summer is here. As you reach the half-way mark, it is a great time to reassess your goals. Are you on track to reach your 2023 goals? Are there ways you can amp up your financial goals, for example by increasing your 401k contribution by 1%? Could you increase your investments by another $100 a month? If you have the margin, these small changes might make a big impact in helping you reach your long-term goals.

nourish to flourish
with Tara Bruce
Hopefully you are not going through any really challenging situations currently, but if you are, then I hope this little nugget of wisdom can be helpful to you. Einstein once said, “No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.”
Have you ever experienced someone who is constantly complaining about something, and yet they do not offer to become a part of the solution? That is because in a state of complaining you may be operating at the same level of consciousness that created the problem to begin with. Negativity begets negativity and there is truth to the phrase — “You always find what you are looking for.” If you are looking for problems, you will find them. however, if you are looking for something to celebrate, you may also find it! It is for you to choose what you will speak and how you will live your days — and hence your life.
Sometimes in life a curve ball is coming directly at you, and you have to decide what you are going to do. How you respond is up to you. Your response is always in your control and no matter who or what caused the problem, your reaction to it is your freedom. If you look at the situation from a higher point of view you might see an opportunity to look within yourself and heal deep seated wounds, offer grace and forgiveness, or to stand up for yourself by speaking your truth. You have the choice to be grateful, and to continue operating out of your loving character regardless of what is happening around you.

The Ashburn Peanut is a beloved landmark for those driving south along I-75.
The Doll’s Head Trail is a funky Atlanta hike, and the faces carved into trees on St. Simons Island make for a mystical treasure hunt.
