20 fun things to celebrate for our 20th anniversary

(not in any particular order)

  1. Our founder, Tim Goodwin, started the company with zero Assets Under Management (AUM). Twenty years later, the firm has almost $300M in AUM.

  1. We’ve come a long way to get to where our beautiful office is today. Tim started the company out of his spare bedroom, and now we have a lovely 4,500 sq ft custom-built office in River Park North in Woodstock, GA.

  1. From one to thirteen – our team now has thirteen employees. As a group, we refer to ourselves as BTOP (Best Team on the Planet)

  1. We love using nicknames, including all team members… even our printers have nicknames (La Chapa, El Prez, Lady Boss, Beckfourth, Elmer Fud, Rainbow Brite, PopPop, Rico, C-Money, Opa, Kim Possible,  Motherboard, and Doc) See if you can guess what team member goes with each nickname.  Hint: You can find the answers on our bio pages under about.

  1. Over the years, we’ve built out many systems, reminders, workflows, and even run our weekly meetings on an intentional operating system that involves scores and goal tracking.

  1. We started a Client Advisory Board in 2018. For six years, we have been meeting with clients serving two-year terms to discuss the firm’s overall direction. If you are a client and interested in serving, please let us know.

  1. Our Investment Committee comprises financial industry experts vital to our continued success and growth since 2018.  One of our fundamental values at GIA is “dedicated to personal growth.” This value is also true for GIA as a company.  To learn and to grow, it is essential to surround yourself with people that are smarter than you.

  1. We have continued to innovate our investment management portfolios, from building them independently to working with institutional partners with large teams of Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA® ) to help deliver better outcomes.

  1. Sometimes technology helps, sometimes it doesn’t. At GIA, we are constantly making sure we are taking advantage of the best software and technology available to help provide our team and our clients with the best user experience.

  1. Eight years ago, advisors encouraged clients to consider giving money away through a Donor Advised Fund (DAF). We are happy to share that many clients have opened DAFs, and in 2023, they collectively gave away $500K to 501(c)3 non-profits.

  1. Over ten years ago, we decided to start sending clients a Happy Birthday card and offering the gift of a book. Little did we know how popular that offer would become. In 2023, we gave away over 200 birthday books!

  1. Initially not a requirement, now all financial advisors at GIA must obtain their CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™ Professional designation.

  1. We love celebrating milestones with our clients. When we are made aware, we often give gifts when clients have a child or grandchild, when they retire, or pay off their mortgage. We also love to throw an Annual Celebration Party to express our gratitude for another year of being able to serve and guide clients.

  1. Almost half of our clients have left us a Google Review. Industry experts recently told us that this is exceptional. We are so grateful that this helps new potential lifetime clients when considering hiring GIA.

  1. In 2022, we were able to start executing trades more seamlessly, as well as offering tax-loss harvesting strategies due to a new technology partner.

  1. We intentionally set aside 2% of our revenue to give to our community through nonprofits and local schools.

  1. We continue to be a debt-free, profitable company with a big, hairy, audacious goal to manage $1B in AUM by 2029!

  1. We have clients in fifteen states!

  1. Our motto is “We care more.” We want this to be shown not only by the client experience itself but also by the services and benefits we offer. Check out this list of our services and benefits.

  1. We invented the Goodlife Pyramid™ as a helpful tool for our advisors and clients when discussing goals:
