Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Goodwin. He and his team share their story with us below:

Tim Goodwin graduated from Berry College with a degree in Finance. Upon graduation, he went to work for a local financial firm, but quickly learned that his personal values and the values of the firm did not line up. So he started his own firm, Goodwin Investment Advisory, in 2004 in his spare bedroom because – “I saw the need for a different kind of financial firm that upheld my values of integrity, honesty, and trust. A firm that operated in the best interest of its clients at all times and fulfilled my vision to lead all people to financial peace, independence, and generosity.”
Tim has cultivated a culture of client-focused service, helping clients become the heroes of their finances by guiding them with GIA’s trademarked unique processes. He and Team GIA have set themselves apart as an industry leader with an experienced team as well as a trusted network of professionals. Tim lives in Canton, GA on a mini-farm with his beautiful wife and college sweetheart, Maureen, and three exceptional daughters (Canaan, Shiloh, and Eden). Plus, 7 chickens, 5 peacocks, 4 ducks, 3 sheep, 2 goats, 2 sugar bears, 2 cats, 1 goose, 1 dog and a partridge in a pear tree. He loves to sit on his front porch in the evenings with his wife and watch his girls play across the pond in their treehouse while sipping a Kentucky mule or a glass of wine. On nights Atlanta United is playing; however, you will find him cheering in the supporter section! On Sunday mornings, the Goodwin family enjoys attending and volunteering at Woodstock City Church.

If Tim could share one message with the world it would be, “the greatest adventure is continuously discovering how much you mean to God!”
The best piece of advice he has ever received was, “In humility value others above yourself.” – Phil 2:3 This quote has permeated his life in every aspect.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

The financial industry has a credibility problem with consumers which is evidenced by a recent study* by Morning Consult which shows that “43% of the population polled do not trust financial advisors, with another 18% being unsure.” It seems the biggest obstacle in our industry is realizing not every firm operates on the same level of integrity, which leads people to have a hard time trusting a financial advisor. Being a fiduciary* we aim to eradicate that stereotype by operating from our values and how we truly care for our client’s financial and personal goals on a different level. We want to create a family feel with our clients and we work hard to do so with our amazing unique-ability team. Maya Angelou explained it best, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” We want our clients to feel good by having confidence and guidance in their financial plans provided by a team they can trust.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?

Tim loves to travel and enjoys traveling with his wife and three daughters across the country in their RV, intending to visit all 50 states and many National Parks before they graduate. Something Tim doesn’t like is when people don’t do what they say they are going to do. Integrity is really important to him.
